2008 Conference Tracks
Business - The aging of the baby boomers is presenting challenges to address
the many issues that link business with the aging of society. Some
of these issues include the aging of the workforce, the dynamics of
the expanding mature market, new technology and sales and marketing.
Caregiving - In
2004 Georgia ranked 10th in the country amongst states with
exploding numbers of family caregivers, with more than 840,000
Georgians serving as family caregivers for their loved ones. Georgia
caregivers are contributing nearly 100 million hours of care
annually to individuals with disabilities, the chronically ill and
elderly. Family caregivers are saving taxpayers hundreds of millions
of dollars each year and delaying countless nursing home placements.
Caregiving has emerged as an important public health issue that can
no longer be considered a “private” or “family” matter, but is a
matter of public concern. How do we protect this hot commodity and
formally recognize and address family caregiving and promote
family-centered care?
Health/Wellness -
Georgia is facing an exploding aging population, rising chronic
disease and soaring healthcare costs. Share winning steps,
strategies and tools to facilitate a healthy movement for Georgia
seniors and to attract the boomers into programs and services.
Housing - The
number of elderly individuals requiring services will increase
dramatically over the next two decades. Individuals are living
longer and wish to remain in their homes as they age. At the same
time, the informal support networks provided by family and friends
are taxed more heavily than ever before. Retiring parents live
further away from their children than in any other time in history.
The nature of long-term care is changing as well. Throughout the
1990s and into the 21st century, different models of combining
health and housing services to facilitate aging in place have
developed. How can we promote aging in place and provide the
combination of housing and service options to do it well?
Leadership - Many
professionals find themselves in a leadership role that do not
identify themselves as leaders and often are not comfortable with
the title. Some lack the confidence and basic leadership skills
required to be a good leader. Through self-assessment and
professional development, one can learn to be a better leader, build
a better team and spark creativity in some of the most difficult
employees. Gather the tools needed to advance your career, increase
productivity and motivate your staff.
Senior Employment - Employment issues are
rapidly growing along with the older adult population and Older
Workers provide valuable resources to the needs of a 21st century
workforce! In the Employment Tract, Aging Network professionals will
find sessions with general employment topics and Senior Community
Service Employment Program (Title V) Specialists will find a number
of technical workshops. Enhance your skills and understanding of
older adult employment issues with topics of interest such as Labor
Law, working with local Workforce Boards, job training, employment
assistance and partnership development.
